Majuli

The disappearing Island
Size : 10’x6′

MAJULI, located in the Brahmaputra River in Assam, India, is the largest river island in the v world. The island, known for its rich cultural heritage and biodiversity, is home to various indigenous communities and unique ecosystems. Majuli’s landscape features lush greenery and, serene water body.

In this artwork, we have captured the lotus leaves’ unique characteristics, showcasing their round, broad shape and v vibrant colors. The leaves are floating gently on the surface of tranquil waters, creating a sense of serenity and harmony. Each leaf is delicately painted to highlight its veins, texture, and subtle variations in shading, adding depth and realism to the artwork.

The lotus flower itself is depicted in various stages of bloom, from small flower to fully open blossoms, each Stage symbolising different aspects of spiritual growth and transformation. We have emphasised the flower’s soft, velvety petals, intricate center, and radiant color, creating a striking contrast against the lush greenery, and rustic leaves and the calmness of the water.

Here, lotus leaves and flowers serve as the focal point, symbolising purity, enlightenment, and tranquillity, while fishes swimming among them add movement and life to the scene. The combination of these elements creates a serene and harmonious atmosphere, evoking a sense of balance and beauty.

This artwork incorporates stitching onto wooden surfaces, creating a unique interplay of rigid structure and delicate, tactile embellishments. The stitching follows the natural lines of the wood and introduces intricate patterns, adding a layer of intricacy and texture to the wooden canvas.
